Budget, deaths, bombs and other joyful themes
Budget: Been quite a week then. Budget was announced today - although in truth it had been trailed for so long there weren't any real surprises. We do kind of get that the finances inherited by the current government were pretty dire but I do hope that today's budget might at least move the narrative
The clocks aren’t the only thing going backwards….
Winter is looming large - the clocks are due to go back at the weekend so we'll be losing an hour of evening light. Always signals the start of a few dark, damp bleak weeks. And always seems a bit uneccessary in this day and age. Been watching the news with my usual (un)healthy dose of
Here to stay…. and moving on:
The two week trial period with the new rescue puppy has ended - Sonny has now officially become a permanent member of the household. Transition from a farm in rural Ireland to a slightly more bustling existence in Brighton has gone largely to plan - first trips to the woods and the pub appropriately executed.
Sonny Days are here – again
Well we've done it - seven days in now and the new pup is firmly ensconsed in our family life. Interesting transition from an old, super intelligent, compliant and deaf dog to a brand new rescue puppy for whom everything is new and exciting. It's incredible how much human pleasure can be derived from watching
The changing of the seasons – milestones, endings and new opportunities:
Well that was summer then – maybe it hasn’t meteorologically ended but given the rainfall and the winds it certainly feels like Autumn is raining down upon us. Consultancy – its had its day…..?
Found myself reading the Sunday papers - many of which carried further details about the Government's stated aims in their manifesto to halve the spend on 'unnecessary consultation' fees. And the eye watering figures that public bodies spent on external consultants leads the reader to see why. As did many of the perjorative statements used
High, Lows and crazy systems….
Ending the week with a blog before heading into town for Brighton Psychefest - various bands playing multiple venues. Thoroughly enjoying not looking at Twitter (currently known as X) although haven't yet gone the full hog and deactivated my account. Also noted with interest the arrest of some bloke who runs Telegram. With any luck we
Time for an eXit?
I've had some time off - literally off for the first time in a while. Hence no blog last week - which judging I'm sure everyone was missing. Have used the time wisely - seen some great gigs and booked plenty more. The football season started full of optimism and by the end of the first
We’re 4 years old
Well not quite obviously - but I did set up as an Independent Consultant 4 years ago this week. Which also means its 4 years since I left CGL and means its frighteningly close to me being 57. Its been quite a journey - we've had and got through a pandemic, gone through numerous Prime
It was a dog’s life….
10 days into our journey post Ledley - still feels very odd. The hallway seems far to large, clean and easy to navigate without the dog himself and various items that he's spread arond the place being tripped over. Adjusting to a new (less structured) regime is taking some time and I must say I'm
