Happy birthday to me – 6 today…..

Blimey – 6 years ago I left CGL and set up my consultancy. Absolutely clueless at the time about where that might take me. Had spent the previous 22 years on the leadership team of a great organisation – where in the end my main skill set seemed to be just knowing who was better at completing different tasks and projects than me.

So I set off – we were still in the midst of Covid – it was a great summer and I was literally about to turn 53. Thought at the time “well I’ve got 10 years to make a difference – so lets go for it”.

Not going to wang on here in classic Linked In style about how fab I am, how great the work we’ve delivered has been. If you know – you already know and as my long standing colleague and friend Kevin says “we are really good at this – why are we so bad at telling people about it”.

So anyway – six years in. I’m definitely a better ‘consultant’ now than I was back then – and with the support of AI have much better teeth. And still got 4 more years left to make a difference – if anyone does need any support. So – my genuine thanks to those who I worked with, every one of you has helped me grow (and pay the bills obvs). And special thanks to those who have made the transition with me from ‘colleagues / partners’ to ‘friends’.

It also means I’m tunring 59 tomorrow – which feels pretty ancient but also I am filled with gratitude for still being here. Have lost plenty of friends who were better people than me before reaching this ripe old age. So in their honour I am going to celebrate in style – Nick Cave an exciting support line up in a park 15 minutes walk from home.

Also safe in the knowledge that no-one will actually read this – as literally everyone I know is also partying in the park with me.
